What is it?

Scabies is caused by a tiny mite that burrows into the skin. You can get the mites from frequent skin-to-skin contact with another person who has scabies. You can also get scabies by sharing infected clothing, bedding or towels.

What are the symptoms?

• Severe itching
• Bacterial infections of the skin if the infected area is scratched

What are the effects?

• Small, red bumps on the skin that look like tiny pimples
• A red rash if you scratch the infected area

Is there a cure?

Scabies can be treated and cured with medicated lotion. Also, all infected clothing, bedding and towels must be washed.
